xplore Nidderdale brings together
everything visitors to Nidderdale and the
Washburn Valley need to know to get the
most out of their stay in this most glorious of
National Landscapes.
Nidderdale is a unique dale. It is set apart from
the Yorkshire Dales National Park, but just as
beautiful, in fact we would say it has more to offer!
That’s because there is a rich and interesting
industrial heritage in Nidderdale, evident
throughout the landscape. Lead mining, lime
kilns, reservoir-building and old textile and corn
mills are dotted throughout the landscape, as well
as the path of an old railway, a branch line that
used to journey from Ripley Junction to Pateley
Bridge, and then on to Lofthouse.
Nidderdale is also home to a UNESCO World
Heritage site--Fountains Abbey and Water
Gardens--in fact this was one of the 昀椀rst sites
to achieve this status in the UK, and it is a very
special place to visit.
You will 昀椀nd information about the many
unique attractions that abound in Nidderdale
interspersed throughout the booklet, amongst the
where to stay and where to eat listings.
We are a charity supporting people in Nidderdale,
and also home to the Tourist Information Centre
in Pateley Bridge. So, this guide has been
researched and made with the deep love that
we all hold for our very special area. We hope
you enjoy reading it, and can 昀椀nd inspiration in
these pages for places to stay, eat and go. We
also hope can 昀椀nd the time to visit us during your
stay to maybe pick up a memento of your time in
Nidderdale!
Enjoy exploring

How to use this guide
We hope that this booklet is easy to understand and read,
but here are some pointers on getting the most out of the
information we have provided.
After each listing are symbols, shown in the key above,
which let you know whether the place is dog-friendly, has
toilet facilities, and whether it is accessible for wheelchairs or
partially accessible.
In the Where to Stay section, we also include a map grid
reference in the title area of the listing to enable you to 昀椀nd
the approximate location of each listing. This grid reference
relates to the map of Nidderdale which you can 昀椀nd on p.16,
in the middle of this booklet.
In the Where to Eat section, all eateries are listed in
alphabetical order according to the village they are found in,
the village name being prominent in the heading. You can
easily 昀椀nd all the villages on the map on p.16.
We have used interactive buttons in most listings that you can
click and will take you directly to the website of the listing.
For the Where to Go attractions, we have included website
details. Most of the time, however, just googling the name of
the attraction will suf昀椀ce and bring up ‘Google my Business’
details to show up-to-date opening times, etc.
